Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy will inaugurate the State-level Immunisation Awareness Month programmes at the Thiruvananthapuram Government Model Higher Secondary School on Friday. Education Minister M.A. Baby will release the guidelines and also lead the oath at the function. V. Sivankutty MLA, will preside over the function in which Mayor C. Jayan Babu, Arogya Kerala State Mission Director Dinesh Arora, Health Secretary Vishwas Mehta, Director of Health Services (DHS) K. Shailaja, Health Services Additional Director (Social Welfare) P.K. Jameela and Thiruvananthapuram District Medical Officer Kumari G. Prema will attend. Decreasing coverageIn a press release issued here on Thursday, DHS K.Shailaja said that the awareness programme was significant as the vaccination coverage in the State was decreasing. The programme will be implemented in association with Social Welfare, Education and Local Self-Government Departments besides Kudumbasree, Nehru Yuva Kendra and other voluntary organisations. Seven diseasesThe immunisation awareness month is observed to spread awareness on the importance of immunisation in curbing seven serious diseases among children including polio, hepatitis B and diphtheria.
