Health camp for tourist-friendly auto drivers

CHENNAI: As part of the World Tourism Week and Gandhi Jayanthi, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) on Thursday organised a medical check up camp and a training programme for Tourist Friendly Autorickshaw (TFA) drivers.

The programme was arranged in association with Amazing Craze Trust, a non-governmental organisation, managed by L.M. Shanthi. The organisation gave away uniforms and herbal oil to the participants of the programme.

Tourism and Culture Department Secretary V. Irai Anbu spoke on the importance of how TFAs have become a vehicle for tourism promotion in the State. Commissioner of Tourism and Managing Director of TTDC M. Rajaram said as part of the programme, the importance of yoga for autorickshaw drivers were stressed.

TTDC Chairman Sanwat Ram wanted more autorickshaw drivers to join the TFA fold. As many as 13 autodrivers joined the scheme, taking the total strength to 160.
