PMK women’s wing seeks total prohibition

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The PMK’s women wing on Thursday took out a rally here demanding total prohibition in the State.

Hundreds of women, mostly widows, whose husbands had fallen victim to liquor, participated in the rally. Standing before a Gandhi statue they narrated their ordeal.

PMK leader S. Ramadoss, who addressed the women, said that the stories of the women bore testimony to the evils of liquor.

“All over the State women are bearing the brunt of liquor,” he said.

Dr. Ramadoss said the State government scheme to supply spices through the public distribution system for Rs.50 would be of no use after collecting Rs.100 from the men by way of liquor sale. “

PMK president G.K.Mani, MP K. Dhanraj, MLA Thirukachur Ko.Arumugam and others participated.
