Bangalore: The Union Ministry for Human Resource Development (MHRD) has sanctioned a central university for Karnataka and it will be established in Gulbarga. The Union Government has sanctioned central universities for Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Minister for Higher Education Arvind Limbavali has thanked the Centre and has urged the MHRD to sanction an Indian Institute of Technology to the State. He also said that the State Government would extend support to establish the central university at Gulbarga. Central team visitGulbarga Special Correspondent reports: A high-level team from the Ministry of Human Resource Development will visit Gulbarga shortly to inspect the probable sites for locating the proposed central university here. Official sources told The Hindu here on Friday that the Union Government had intimated the district administration that the Central team would be visiting within 15 days to hold discussions with the State Government officials. Sites identifiedSources said that the district administration had identified two sites at Kadakanchi and Suntanur in Aland taluk. Each of the identified sites has 300 acres of Government land and the central university can be established in any one of these sites. The State Government had directed the district administration to identify at least four more sites, probably close to Gulbarga city or within the city for the purpose. As it was difficult to find 300 acres of vacant land within the city or in the outskirts, the administration has identified four sites of 100 acres each. There was private land of more than 300 acres adjacent to these lands for acquisition in case the central team prefers to locate the central university in any of these sites.
