KOTTAYAM: An atmosphere of tension is prevailing in the Thazhathangadi, Puthanangadi, Thiruvathukkal areas following a series of violent incidents involving activists of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and National Development Front (NDF) during the past 48 hours. The current spurt in violence began with the attack on a DYFI activist P.R. Ratheesh at Alummooddu near Thazhathangadi on Thursday afternoon. By 10 p.m., a house of an NDF activist came under attack. An autorikshaw parked in the compound was damaged in the attack on the house of Anas, son of Shumsuddin of Thazhchayil House. He has filed a complaint with Kottayam (West) Police Station. However, by midnight the house of DYFI leader and member of Kottayam Municipal Council Gagar Kora came under attack. His house and car were heavily damaged. CPI(M) sources alleged that this was carried out by NDF activists. Ajosh, a DYFI activist who was returning home after visiting Mr Kora’s house in the night, was also attacked allegedly by NDF activists. Police have arrested three persons in connection with the attack on Ratheesh.
