BANGALORE: Minister for Cooperation Lakshman Savadi on Friday turned down the Karnataka Milk Federation’s proposal to hike milk price by Rs. 2 a litre. Addressing presspersons here, he said there was no justification to hike the prices of milk in the present situation as the Government had been providing special incentive of Rs. 2 for a litre of milk to milk producers. Office-bearers of 13 milk federations held a meeting with officials of the Cooperation and Animal Husbandry Departments on Friday and the KMF had been asked to submit a report to the Government. He would convince KMF Chairman H.D. Revanna about the negative consequences of the proposed price hike and asked him to drop the move, Mr. Savadi said. Mr. Revanna and the KMF had neglected the dairy sector in districts of Dharwad, Bagalkot, Bijapur, and Haveri. Mr. Revanna released adequate funds for development of milk cooperatives in Hassan, Bangalore, Mandya, Ramangara districts, he alleged. The Minister took exception to the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s statement that Siddaganga Math seer Sri Shivakumara Swamiji, who refused to participate in the Dasara celebrations last year, now found it convenient to attend Dasara this year. Mr. Kumaraswamy has alleged that the seer had started caring more for their castes than issues by accepting the invitation to inaugurate the Dasara celebrations this year.
