NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday suggested that the Opposition parties, criticising the India-United States nuclear agreement, should introspect their stand. Without naming any party, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said: “Those still critical [of the agreement] will have to introspect. Questions are being asked as to when the Nuclear Suppliers Group which has countries with diverse perspectives has given the waiver, is it fair on their part to disrupt domestic consensus?” He said if the 45-member NSG could sink its differences and rally around India, was it not possible for our ‘doubting Thomases’ to bury their differences. He said if the House of Representatives and Senate could pass it in one week, does it look good for political parties not to rise in national interest? He said the approval by the U.S. Congress was the culmination of a process that began in 1974 and said despite all the restrictions India sustained 6 to 6.5 per cent rate of growth during the last 27 years and in the last four years it hovered at 8 per cent and above.
