CHENNAI: The sixth and final leg of the J.K. Tyre National racing championship will take place at the Madras Motor Race Track here over the weekend. With two drivers — Gaurav Dalal and Sarosh Hataria — placed first and third in the overall Formula Rolon standings, Team Red Rooster would be looking to cap a successful debut year by sealing the issue in the final round. The lead in the Formula Rolon class has switched hands innumerably over the course of this season, before Gaurav and Sarosh came up with a flurry of podium finishes in the last three rounds to help their team’s cause. While Team Red Rooster sits on top with 101 points, second placed Team Speed NK Racing has garnered 88 points, and third placed Team Prime Racing has managed 55. Race only for third spotSaran Vikram of Team WSRF with Leela and Karthik Shankar of Team TVS Girling has already clinched the championship with 102 and 70 points respectively in the Formula LGB Swift class with the relevance of the weekend’s competition being restricted to identifying who will take the third spot. Competitors for third place include Sudanand Rajan of Team WSRF with Leela (42 points), his teammate Prithveen Rajan (36 points), and Rayomand Banajee of Team Amaron with Meco (36 points). The JK Tyre National Enduro, with Formula LGB Hyundai vehicles, will be for 60 minutes with two drivers per car and each driver being allowed to drive for no more than 15 minutes at a stretch. The top contenders in this category are Karthik Shankar and Narain Shankar of Team Rams Racing and Sudanand and Prithveen of Team WSRF. The finals of the endurance race will be held on Saturday and will be followed by one race each in the Group ‘A’ super bike series, the Race Star class and Super Saloon cars class. The formula car races and the remaining Group ‘A’ bike races will take place on Sunday.
