RTC staff stage dharna

HYDERABAD: The APSRTC Employees’ Union organised a dharna in front of the Transport Commissioner’s office here on Friday opposing the Government’s move to introduce 1,500 SETWIN buses across the State, which, it feels, poses a threat to the State-owned corporation.

K. Padmakar, general secretary, inaugurated the protest programme. Addressing the participants, he said the proposal to introduce 500 SETWIN buses in Hyderabad, 200 in Visakhapatnan and 35 each in 20 districts in RTC routes would sound ‘death knell’ to the corporation.

If the Government extended the expenditure incurred on the introduction of SETWIN buses to RTC, it could not only be strengthened, but also unemployment problem solved, he said.
