This rainbow is ‘black and white’

Yet another artiste from Happy Days makes his debut as a hero. Shyamal Rao (Rahul), a painter whose life revolves around colours falls in love with Swapna (Sonali Chauhan) an aspiring film artiste and helps her in her climb to stardom. In an accident he becomes colour blind and does not disclose this to her.

He can see only black or white and sometimes strangely pink because it’s the colour of love. When it’s time to declare his feelings, Sonal explains to him that he has mistaken friendship for love. Even before he can nurse his broken heart, he is made to rush to Kamala (Sindhu Menon) who has popped sleeping pills on account of unrequited love.

All along the film we are shown that Kamala, a dumb girl is very affectionate towards Shyam and is crestfallen when she learns that Shyam’s heart lies elsewhere. While the triangular love story is slowly evolving Swapna realises how mean she had been and rushes to Shyam but it’s too late. Shyam and Kamala are married.

One doesn’t understand why the director had to show the hero as being colour blind just to elevate his character and the heroine undergoing a change of heart just because she realises Shyam is suffering from an ailment looks unrealistic.

Technically the camera brings some sensibility, the movie has some passable songs and the heroines Sonal and Sindhu could have put some more passion into their dialogues.
