Celebration of physics

PUDUCHERRY: It was celebration of physics at the week-long Festival of Physics ‘Festophys-2008’ at Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for Post-Graduate Studies (KMCPGS) from September 24 to 30. A number of lectures, competitions and discussions were held as part of this physics mela.

According to a release, ‘Festophys-2008’ was inaugurated by Member of Parliament K. Dhanaraju and was followed by a lecture on “Fibre Optics and Communication-Its past, present and future” by Head of Department, Physics of Pondicherry University K. Porsezhian.

It was organised by the students of Physics Department of KMCPGS.

Series of lectures

Lectures on “Is the earth hotting up,” “Number systems in physics,” “Bluetooth technology,” “Quality in higher education-stakeholders responsibility,” “Latest trends in nano science and technology,” “Pile-up and perish, clean-up and flourish” and “Nano Ferro fluid” were held during the week-long programme.

Students of first year M.Sc. Physics of the institute presented their seminars on different topics such as fibre optics and communication, big bang and photonics.

The students of second year M.Sc. Physic presented seminars on various topics such as nanotechnology, mechatronics and photonics and astrophysics on the occasion.

As part of the celebrations, competitions such as debate, quiz and poster presentation were held. Prizes were distributed for all winners and a cultural programme was held on the last day of the physics mela, added the release.

Director of KMCPGS K. Satyanarayana Rao was present.
