KOZHIKODE: Ranjith, film director, who has come up with a stunning performance as the hero of Gulmohar, has criticised the Kerala State Film Development Corporation and the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy for the film being allegedly denied a release in the State-owned theatres Kairali and Sree. Speaking at a meet-the-press programme here on Saturday, Ranjith minced no words when Jayaraj, director of Gulmohar, expressed his disappointment. He said the State-owned theatres were not willing to screen a national-award winning film such as Ekantham even as a noon show. “While shooting my last film, Thirakkatha, at Chitranjali Studio in Thiruvananthapuram, I was surprised to find that a reality show for a television channel was being given priority over a feature film,” he added. Jayaraj said theatres in Kerala preferred Tamil and dubbed Telugu films to Malayalam films. Unfortunate“It is unfortunate that even our State-owned theatres are ignoring good films,” he said. “Gulmohar is an honest portrayal of the dreams of some revolutionaries in Kerala.” Script-writer Deedi said Gulmohar was not a Naxalite film. “It is a film against injustices in society,” she said.
