Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 854 members of the 73 Kudumbasree Cleanwell units in the city received two pairs of uniforms each on Thursday, thanks to a warm gesture by a citizen. The uniform kit comprising two saris, blouses and skirts, were donated by C.S. Nair, a resident of Sasthamangalam Kochar road. Mayor C. Jayan Babu distributed the kits to Kudumbasree workers at a function organised by the Corporation on Thursday. Deputy Mayor V. Jayaprakash, chairman of the health standing committee G.R. Anil, councillors and Health Officer D. Sreekumar attended the function. ConrgratulationsThe Mayor congratulated Mr. Nair for spending more than Rs.8 lakh to purchase the kits. He lauded the gesture. Sanitation campaignMeanwhile, the Corporation has mobilised its workforce and infrastructure for the week-long sanitation campaign to mark Gandhi Jayanti. Public places including the premises of offices and educational institutions will be cleaned up as part of the drive. Apart from the Corporation’s fleet of garbage trucks, vehicles that have been provided by builders within the city limits have also been pressed into service. IntensificationThe campaign, which began on Thursday, will be intensified in the coming days, Corporation Secretary Johnson K. George said.
