Uncertainty shrouds Parab festival

Correspondent

KORAPUT: Parab, the State-level tribal festival at Koraput might be affected badly this year if steps were not taken to organise it in a proper way. The festival had brought a rare distinction to the district and put it in the national tourist calendar. It was instrumental in promoting tourism, culture and tribal ways of life of Koraput district to the world outside by showcasing the skills of its artists.

Usually preparatory meetings were held in September every year to finalise the proceedings of the festival by forming exclusive committees and inviting artists from across the country.

However, this time there was an unprecedented delay in calling such a meeting of the general body of the District Council of Culture to formalise the plans for the festival.

Moreover the executive body meeting of DCC, which was held last month under the chairmanship of the Collector in the presence of officials and other members of the council, came out with several proposals that were to be sanctioned in the general body meeting.

Keeping in view the need to bring reforms in the mode of the celebrations, Krushna Chandra Panigrahy, the Director of Tribal Museum at Koraput suggested to view the festival as an occasion to find people with innovation, intelligence, creativity, originality and motivational skills so as to expose the latent talent of the district to the outer world while giving scope to the individuals to grow.
