Seer to inaugurate the event on October 23 Advani invited to deliver inaugural address Belgaum: The city-based Karnataka Law Society’s (KLS) Gogte Institute of Technology (GIT) is making preparations for its silver jubilee to be celebrated for three days from October 23. The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, L.K. Advani, has been invited to deliver the inaugural address. Sri Visvesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math will inaugurate the celebrations. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Ministers from the north Karnataka region will participate in the function. Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel has been invited to deliver the valedictory address on October 25, KLS Chairman S.M. Kulkarni told presspersons here on Saturday. Centre of excellenceHe said GIT, which was established in 1979, had grown into a centre of excellence in the field of engineering education in the country. GIT was the result of the initiative of KLS stalwarts such as N.S. Lokur, Narayanrao Joshi, B.N. Datar, Kesharvarao Gokhale and V.A. Naik, he said. CoursesHe said that GIT, which had only four departments 25 years ago, was now imparting engineering education in eight disciplines at the undergraduate level and seven courses at the postgraduate level and Ph.D. programmes in eight disciplines. The institute had IEEE chapter for the benefit of students and facilities for research. TrainingIt offered a unique pre and post- placement training programme for students. It was the first engineering college in the State to be recognised as a centre for research programmes by Visvesvaraya Technological University. The management was spending nearly Rs. 40 lakh on research activities every year. More than 280 scientific and technological papers had been published in national and international journals. Many of its faculty members had participated in international conferences and workshops, GIT principal D.H. Rao said. Dr. Rao said that GIT alumni had proposed an endowment fund to accelerate research activities. DecisionA decision would be taken in this regard during the global alumni meet as part of the silver jubilee celebrations. KLS members S.G. Punekar and R.S. Mutalik Desai were present.
