DAVANGERE: Bharatlal Meena, Secretary, Social Welfare, has suggested that the Education Department restructure school hours for children tending sheep and cattle so that they can pursue their education. Chairing a review meeting of the Social Welfare Department here on Saturday, Mr. Meena said there was a provision to change their school hours. He also asked the officials to open more tent schools for them in rural areas. He said it was difficult to expect these children to give up their daily jobs and focus on studies alone, as they were already set in their ways. He also asked the officials to make parents aware about the need to have their children educated . The Secretary said it was shameful for the country to lag behind in education despite having achieved independence 61 years ago.
