Employees unhappy with pay hike

Transport corporation staff threaten stir

BIDAR: Members of the district unit of the Akhila Karnataka Rajya Raste Saarige Naukarara Mahamandala staged a dharna on the premises of the North-East Road Transport Corporation here on Saturday.

A release from the mahamandala said a similar dharna would be staged on October 14 to draw the attention of the State Government.

The release said the mahamandala opposed the Government’s “unilateral” decision to increase the salaries of road transport corporation employees by six per cent.

The members have started a signature campaign against the move.

The members said the State Government and the Centre had revised the salaries of their employees by 20 per cent and 17. 5 per cent respectively.

But the mahamandala had been pressing the State Government to concede its 38 demands, including pay revision. As a part of its protest, the mahamandala will submit memorandums to district in-charge Ministers and MLAs in various districts on October 20.

It will distribute pamphlets between October 22 and 30 to gather support.

Members will hold a protest in Belgaum when the State Cabinet meets there in November, the release said.

The members demanded that the State Government pay trainees based on posts, regularise all employees of road transport corporations and stop hiring trainees.

The members said they would be forced to launch an indefinite Statewide agitation from November 11 if their demands were not met.

The dharna was led by district unit president of the mahamandala Ravi Shankar. Mahamandala vice-president M.D. Khalid participated.
