Services hit at VIMS

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: Medical services at the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) Hospital were hit for the second day on Saturday following the strike by junior doctors in protest against the assault on their colleague on Thursday. They urged the Government to enact the Medico-Protection Act.

The junior doctors took out a procession here to draw the attention of the Government and the people to their plight and the difficulties they faced while on duty. All MBBS students of the VIMS college boycotted their classes in support of the strike and participated in the procession. . Arun Kumar, general secretary of the Junior Doctors’ Association, told The Hindu that the strike would continue until the Government promised to introduce a legislation to protect medical professionals. He also said the Bellary Chapter of the Indian Medical Association had offered support to the strike.
