Association wants loans waived for all farmers

Staff Reporter

ERODE: Tamizhaga Vivasayeegal Sangam has urged the Union Government to waive agriculture loans for all farmers.

Resolution

At a meeting organised recently, the farmer-members of the organisation resolved to urge the Government to extend the scheme so as to cover all farmers.

They said a few public sector banks threatened farmers who failed to repay loans. In addition to this, they also decided to ask the Tamil Nadu Government to convene a meeting to discuss Kerala Government’s proposed move to construct a dam to divert River Bhavani waters.

They termed the Kerala Government’s proposed move as a denial of Tamil Nadu farmers’ legitimate rights.

The farmers have welcomed the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption’s action against Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board officers.

Action

Asking for stringent action to be taken against the officials, the farmers have urged the Tamil Nadu Government to take a more serious look at the pollution problem plaguing Erode district.

Solidarity

They also expressed their solidarity with Sri Lankan Tamils and Tamil Nadu fishermen, who “suffered at the hands of the Sri Lankan Army and Navy”.
