Planning committee ratifies revised allocations

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: The District Planning Committee has ratified the revised proposal of Zilla Parishad Chairperson B. Appala Naidu seeking release of Rs.1895 lakhs (Rs.255.65 lakhs for four municipalities and Rs.1639.35 lakhs for panchayats) for 2008-09.

The DPC Chairman put the revised proposal before the committee on Saturday after the Government rejected its earlier resolution seeking an increase of 10 per cent every year in the backward region development grants. Mr. Appala Naidu said allocations would be made on the basis of population when the funds were likely to be received.

No pucca buildings

The members emphasised on providing basic amenities in schools where the mid-day meal scheme would be introduced from October 13. ZPTC members from Nellimarla and Dattirajeru mandals Kondababu and B. Appala Narasaiah felt that implementation of the scheme in high schools would be an uphill task for executing agencies considering there were nearly 1200 students in each of the 248 schools.

Gade Srinivasulu Naidu, MLC (Teacher), suggested that ZPTC members visit schools in each mandal and study the facilities/lapses and submit a report to mandal education officer for action. District Educational Officer Y. Balaiah told the members that already identification of executing agencies was on. TDP MLA from Bhogapuram P. Narayana Swamy Naidu said that some high schools in his constituency lacked pucca buildings. With regard to diarrhoea cases, DMHO Ch. Mahesh said proposals for separate sheds in at least ten primary health centres this year were sent to the Government. The Zilla Parishad and each PHC would share the cost equally, he said.
