DEHRA DUN: Uttarakhand Chief Minister B. C. Khanduri has welcomed the Centre’s decision to grant Central University status to Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University and said that efforts would be made now to secure a similar status for Kumaon University. The grant of Central status has been widely welcomed by all who feel that the university will have sufficient funds now to develop into a centre of excellence. Meanwhile, reports from Naini Tal over the weekend said that teachers of Kumaon University have urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to grant Central status to their varsity also.
