Fertilizer raids: 59 held in Khammam

KHAMMAM: Police arrested some 59 persons, including senior leaders of Opposition parties, on Saturday in connection with the looting of fertilizer outlets in Khammam. Nallamala Venkateswar Rao, general secretary of Telugu Ryothu, farmers’ wing of the TDP, and Khammam district unit president, Mandadapu Sudhakar, were among them.

Superintendent of Police Mahesh M. Bhagwat said a majority of those who indulged in the looting spree were identified through video footage and some more arrests were in the offing. About 130 bags of fertilizer stolen from different godowns and some pesticide were recovered from the accused.
