NEW DELHI: Venturing into the field of distance education, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University here will now offer a new course: Bachelor of Computer Applications — Industry Specific. The programme will be conducted under the aegis of the University’s Directorate of Open and Distance Education in collaboration with the Computer Society of India. Six semestersThe three-year programme will be divided into six semesters and will offer a facility to specialise in emerging areas such as telecommunications, life sciences, banking and retail, software engineering and information technology-enabled services. The course will also give the students an option to exit at the end of the second semester or the fourth semester with a certificate and diploma, respectively. The programme will be imparted through the University’s authorised study centres (ASCs) in Delhi, Aligarh, Agra, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Indore, Jagdalpur, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Noida and Patiala. Self-learning manuals“Self-learning manuals of all the course modules will be sent to the students in the form of computer-based training on CDs along with instructions booklets. In addition to the CDs, web-based virtual labs will also be made online. “Moreover, online technical support will be provided to the students in order to clear their doubts. The programme will involve two personal contact programmes of one-week duration each, in every semester, both for lab-based and theory subjects,” said a University official. EligibilityThose who have cleared Class XII from the Central Board of Secondary Education or an equivalent examination or have a three-year diploma in any branch of Engineering from any institute/university/board recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education are eligible to apply for the programme. The admission brochure along with the application form can be obtained from select branches of Punjab and Sind Bank across the country or different ASCs of the University.
