Haryana schemes for families of war martyrs

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced several welfare schemes on Saturday for the families of martyrs, including an increase in the monthly pension of war widows and in the financial assistance given on the marriage of their daughters.

The announcements were made on behalf of the Chief Minister by his son Deepender Singh Hooda, Member of Parliament from Rohtak, while addressing the war widows and members of the families of soldiers during a “Vir Nari” conference organised by the Army Wives’ Welfare Association at Meham.

The monthly pension of war widows would be increased from Rs.600 to Rs.1,000 and the monthly pension of the widows of World War II martyrs from Rs.1,000 to Rs.1,500. Financial assistance of Rs.21,000 would be given on the marriage of the martyr’s daughter and Rs.11,000 on the marriage of daughters of ex-servicemen. Also, it would be ensured that widows who were not getting any pension so far would start getting it soon.

Mr. Deepender Hooda said these new schemes had been launched to honour the soldiers and their families.
