Agrotechnologists are upset with functioning of Agriculture department
Special Correspondent
THANJAVUR: The seventeenth annual meet of Tamil Nadu Senior Agrotechnologists Forum (TANSAF) held here on Thursday expressed profound concern over the functioning of the State Agriculture Department.
The meeting, addressed by senior agricultural scientists including former vice-chancellors of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, V. Rajagopalan and S. Kannaiyan, and S. Nagarajan, Chairman of Protection of Plant varieties and Farmers Rights Authority, New Delhi, was sore about the remarks made by Surjit K. Chaudhary, Agriculture Department Secretary, on Green Revolution and Government policies.
The morale of the officers had dipped and that was not conducive for the smooth functioning of the department. Restructuring of the Department had resulted in lopsided deployment of work force.
By a resolution, the forum requested the Chief Minister to look into the problems faced by the farmers and the workforce in the Agriculture department.
The forum expressed its gratitude to the Chief Minister for his congratulatory speech during Independence Day celebration with regard to Agriculture department and for making special mention of the production of 100 lakh tonnes of cereals in the State which accounted for 6.5 per cent growth against the national average of 2.6 per cent.
State president of TANSAF K. S. Subbiah, who presided over the meeting, explained the objective of the forum. The ‘TANSAF year book-2008 and TANSAF members address book-2008 were also released at the function.
