Colour TV sets: all will be covered, says Stalin

Staff reporter

DINDIGUL: If need be, the State government will launch the fifth phase of the distribution of free colour television sets to cover all beneficiaries, Minister for Local Administration M.K. Stalin said Saturday.

Three phases have been completed, and the tender has been floated for television sets worth Rs.40 lakh for the fourth phase. It will almost cover all the beneficiaries, he said, after disbursing Rs.14.25 crore in revolving funds to 2,500 self-help groups and laying the foundation for projects at a function held here.

“If necessary, we will not hesitate to launch the fifth phase to cover those who have been left out of the scheme. Several women in rural areas have informed me that they have not got the television sets so far,” he said.

Mr. Stalin urged the SHG women to utilise the funds properly to improve their lot and for the economic uplift of rural areas.

The SHGs had performed was exceedingly well, he said. Indian Bank alone had offered Rs.1,824 crore to 2.57 lakh SHGs, half of them in Tamil Nadu.
