CBI probe sought into church attacks

BANGALORE: Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the State of instigating the attacks on churches, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Saturday appealed to Governor Rameshwar Thakur to direct the State Government to seek a CBI probe into the episode.

In a memorandum to the Governor, the outgoing KPCC president M. Mallikarjun Kharge appealed to the Government to direct the Government to provide protection to all sections of society as per the law of the land.

Mr. Kharge alleged that the Government had failed to improve power situation in the State and to effectively take up relief measures in the drought-affected and flood-affected areas.

He said the Government had ignored the implementation of the Central schemes like National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, JNNURM and welfare schemes meant for SC/ST and minorities.

Earlier, the party organised a rally in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue here to protest against what it called “the failures of the BJP Government in all fronts.” The party leaders took out a padayatra from the party office on Queen’s Road to the venue of the rally.
