Bus strike in Manipur

IMPHAL: Movement of people, including students and government employees, is hampered and prices of all commoditieshave gone up in Manipur as bus operators are on strike.

The All Manipur Bus Owners’ Association (AMBOA), which called the strike from Friday morning, is demanding fare revision by the government “in keeping with the fuel price hike.”

Secretary A. Priyokumar said that from 2005 the price of fuel had been hiked by Rs. 8 a litre but bus fare remained unchanged. The AMBOA has been demanding an increase of 30 paise a km.

All bus services have come to a halt. Besides passengers, traders who depend on buses to bring consumer items from far-off places to the main market in Imphal have been hit.
