CHENNAI: Expressing serious concern over the recent communal disturbances in the country, Chief Justice of the Madras High Court A.K. Ganguly on Saturday said: “Tolerance is in our blood and tolerance is the spirit of India. Let us all condemn violence unleashed on innocent lives.”

Mr. Ganguly, who was the chief guest at an Eid-Milan function, appealed to the people of all faiths to unite and strengthen the secular fabric of the country.

K.N. Basha, Judge of the Madras High Court, commended the committee of hosts for making donations to charitable organisations.

Maj. Gen. E.J. Kochekkan, General Officer Commanding, ATNK&K Area, who released a booklet on Ramzan, called for concerted efforts to fight forces that threatened the secular fabric of the country.

P.M. Amza, Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, received the first copy.

S.K. Khadri, convener of the function, spoke about the importance of communal harmony.

Director-General of Police K.P. Jain; the Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali; and U.S. Consul General in Chennai Andrew Zimkin attended the function.
