NEW DELHI: Almost a year after the murder of fashion designer Mona Suri, the probe into the case has reached a “crucial stage”, the police told a court here on Saturday while seeking further time to file a final probe report. The Investigating Officer (IO) informed Metropolitan Magistrate Tarun Sehrawat that some more time should be granted to the police for filing a status report in the case as they were about to crack the mystery behind the fashion designer’s murder which took place in South Delhi’s posh Greater Kailash area. Allowing the plea, the court asked the IO to file the report on October 30. The 35-year-old designer was burnt by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants outside her residence on August 12 last year after pouring kerosene on her. She later succumbed to her injuries in Safdarjung Hospital. However, the police so far have not been able either to nab the assailants or establish the motive behind the gruesome murder. Earlier, the victim’s father Manjeet Bawa had approached the court with a plea to issue directions for conducting a narco-analysis test on a young woman with whom his son-in-law Naveen allegedly had an extra-marital affair. The application is still pending before the court, which had sought the views of the prosecutor on the matter, as the test is believed to be a “double-edged weapon”. According to Mr. Bawa, the police had seized a diary being maintained by Mona which purportedly contained notes hinting at ill-treatment by her husband. He alleged that his daughter’s ill-treatment seemed linked to her husband’s illicit relationship with the other woman. - PTI
