Bhopal: With the water level at the historic Upper Lake of Bhopal fast receding due to less rainfall this year, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) may start supplying water every alternate day instead of daily from October 10. “The BMC council has decided to hand over the issue to the Civic Commissioner for a final decision in view of the deepening crisis,” BMC sources said on Sunday. BMC Commissioner Manish Singh told the meeting that the water level of the lake, a major source for the supply of water in Bhopal, is fast depleting and therefore, it is not possible to supply water to the people daily, they said. However, Corporators belonging to BJP and Congress protested against the decision to stop supply of water daily and demanded that alternate ways should be explored before taking a any final decision. At the prevailing level in the lake, only 80 days of water can be supplied. The situation is not any better at other water resources of the city, they said. --PTI
