Acharya tells police to adopt more public-friendly attitude

New responsibility: Probationary women sub-inspectors at the passing out parade in Mysore on Sunday.

Mysore: Home Minister V.S. Acharya has stressed the need for the police to adopt a more public-friendly attitude. This will help reinforce people’s faith in the police, he has said.

Mr. Acharya was speaking at the passing out parade of the 32nd batch of police sub-inspector probationers at the Karnataka Police Academy here on Sunday.

The Minister assured better incentives and remuneration to the staff of the academy. In all, 218 probationary police sub-inspectors, including 30 women, passed out by participating in an impressive parade commanded by Khaja Hussain, who was declared the all-round best probationer and given the Chief Minister’s sword. During the course of their training they studied law and attended classes on psychology, criminology, forensic science, forensic medicine, women and child related laws and other related issues. There were also capsule courses and workshops on cyber crime, gender sensitisation, human trafficking and role of the police, terrorism, VIP security, extremism, naxalism, disaster management and personality development, among others.

P. Rajendra Prasad, Deputy Director, Karnataka Police Academy, administered the oath to the probationers. For the first time, the best all-round best probationer was also given away the Chief Minister’s sword while the Home Minister’s trophy was given to G.S. Swarna.
