dated October 6, 1958: Nuclear tests

India on October 5 called for the “immediate suspension” of nuclear weapons tests “pending an agreement at the forthcoming conference” at Geneva. In a draft resolution submitted to the General Assembly, the Indian delegation said it considered such an agreement was “imperative.” The resolution also asked the “States concerned” to report to the Assembly their agreement on the discontinuance of nuclear tests “in order that the Assembly may take steps to extend the operation of the agreement to all States.”
