Letters to the Editor
I was grieved to hear about the demise of K. Narayanachari, retired Chief Photographer of The Hindu. I knew him for over three decades, and saw him in action in a number of Test matches and first-class cricket matches. I admired him for his enthusiasm and motivation to capture treasured moments. He was a photographer par excellence. The quality of the numerous pictures that adorned The Hindu and the Sportstar spoke volumes about his skills. He was a genial personality whom all of us will miss for a long time to come. R.K. Raghavan, Chennai I was working as Director, Information & Publicity, during the 9th Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1982. We were in need of the photographs of the first Asian Games held in New Delhi in 1951. It was Chari who had the distinction of covering the games. He had preserved all the photographs. He readily provided us the magnificent pictures which we used in our publicity material. The entire organising committee was grateful to him for the help.Tarlochan Singh, MP, New Delhi The demise of veteran photographer Chari has created a void that is very difficult to fill. I remember how I used to hunt for Sport & Pastime copies, just to see his photographs. He occupied a unique position for nearly five decades and great sportsmen showered praise on him. One hopes the TNCA will institute a trophy in his name for the best photographer. K.V. Rajagopal, Chennai
