DPS in last four

NEW DELHI: Delhi Public School, Ghaziabad beat Government Senior Secondary School, Bhola Nath Nagar-III 2-0 to become the first team to enter the semifinals of the Sportsmen Welfare Association inter-school under-16 football tournament at the Chilla Sports Complex here on Sunday. Shakshu Tyagi and Sanjay Bhandari were the scorers.

In another match, Bal Vidhiya Public School ( Nodia ) defeated Gayan Bharti Public School 1-0. The all-important goal was scored by Sanchit Kohli in the dying minutes of the encounter.

Kochhar hits century

Gaurav Kochhar hit a brilliant 118 as Delhi thrashed Himachal Pradesh by 242 runs in an under-16 inter-state one-day match for the Polly Umrigar Trophy at the Vidya Jain Public School ground here on Sunday.

In another match, Punjab beat Jammu and Kashmir by 179 runs.

The scores:

Delhi 285 for six in 50 overs (Gaurav Kochhar 118, Nitish Rana 73) bt Himachal Pradesh 43 in 22.5 overs (Vikas Mishra five for 10).

Punjab 289 for five in 50 overs (Manpreet Monu 118, Arun Kumar 76) bt Jammu and Kashmir 110 in 34.5 overs (Usma Pandit 54, Nitish four for 26).

Match drawn

Punjab Heroes held South India to a 1-1 draw in a preliminary match of the Delhi Soccer Association ‘B’ division football league here on Sunday.

Mudit scored for the South India team while Satish netted the equaliser for the Punjab side.

In another match, Collegians Club drew Golden Stars 1-1. Soumya of the Golden Stars and Ginny of the Collegians scored the goals.

Nawada wins title

Nawada Club defeated JDM Club 25-23 25-18 25-16 to win the women’s title in the Sardar Gurbaksh Singh memorial volleyball tournament at the YMCA courts here on Sunday.

Jayanti Club beat Dhaka Club 25-11 25-19 25-20 in a battle for the third place.

Men (round robin league): Dhaka Club bt S.U. Block (Pitampura) 25-23 16-25 19-25 25-17 15-6, Northern Railways bt CRPF 23-25 25-23 25-12 25-21.
