Power from paddy husk

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: At a time when industries are facing severe power crunch, the Kalady Rice Millers Consortium has set a fine example of captive power generation. A food processing enterprise, an ancillary unit of one of the millers, is generating power from paddy husk. The unit, situated at Koovappady near Kalady, generates 750 KVA power. The power generation is achieved by the movement of a turbine which is set in motion by the steam generated from a high pressure boiler. The fuel for the boiler is husk of paddy. The plant has been set up with an investment of about Rs. 4 crores. The consortium was set up in 2003 .
