Pre-paid auto needed

Sir, — Kalasipalyam is a locus of activity, especially for transporters. However, passengers who arrive there are forced to start their day with arguments with autorickshaw drivers, while negotiating fares. No driver seems willing to switch on the meter. A few of them even try and snatch bags from the people. Many of them even act as commission agents for nearby hotels. The police and the Transport authorities should consider establishing a pre-paid autorickshaw stand there.

Payment of water bills

Sir, — The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has been sending water bills to residents of Vidyamanyanagar, Omkaranagar and Raghavendranagar, directing them to pay the amount at Vijaya Bank branch at Peenya Dasarahalli. The bank branch is 12 km away and people are finding it difficult to go there and pay the bill. The BWSSB was requested to allow people to make payments at the Sunkadakatte branch of Vijaya Bank instead. But, so far no action has been taken in this regard. The authorities are requested to look into it immediately.

Health of banks

Sir, — The U.S. financial crisis was said to be the result of profligate lending by banks and financial institutions without taking sufficient safeguards. The U.S. Government had to pump in taxpayers’ money to tide over the crisis. However, the investors’ confidence has been shaken. The situation is similar in India. The people would like to know what the “recovery targets” have been over the last 10 years.

G.K.S. Kandasubramanian,

Water supply

Sir, — For the past 10 days there has been severe water scarcity on 60th and 61st cross roads in Kumaraswamy Layout 1st Stage. Water is supplied on alternate days from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Due to this, residents do not get adequate water. I request the authorities concerned to look into the matter and ensure adequate supply of water.

S. Raghavendra,

Bangalore
