Breast cancer workshop

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A workshop on breast cancer will be held at Vasantha Memorial Cancer Centre in Ashok Nagar on October 12 and 19. The workshop, being organised in commemoration of ‘Breast cancer awareness month’ will be organised for women volunteers and nurses. A two-hour session will be held from 10 a.m. and include a lecture and a video film on self-examination, and training on breast models.

“One in 85 Indian women can be affected by breast cancer,” says Ramanathan Jayaraman, managing trustee of Vasantha Memorial Trust. “It is the single largest type of cancer to occur in the country. The more we are aware, the less cancer will strike us. Since 1998 the Trust has observed October as the month of breast cancer awareness with the rest of the world,” Dr. Ramanathan said. The Trust was established in 1993 with the aim of spreading awareness about cancer and preventing it.

For details about the workshop, contact: 2471 7871, 2471 7877 or 98940-89370/9.
