VIJAYAWADA: Thousands of pilgrims visited Kanakadurga temple atop Indrakeeladri on the sixth day of the 10-day Dasara festival on Sunday. The goddess was adorned as ‘Sri Mahalakshmi Devi’ and the temple was open from the early hours of the day. Sunday being a holiday, the temple witnessed heavy pilgrim rush. Officials stopped operating the special vehicles to the hillock, which were meant for the disabled, aged and the members of the festival committee, in the afternoon due to the heavy rush. Krishna district Joint Collector B. Ramaiah and Vijayawada Sub-Collector Gaurav Uppal, who convened a review meeting on arrangements for ‘Moola Nakshatram’ celebrations of Monday, asked the temple authorities not to sell darshan tickets on Monday, but allow pilgrims in single queue. They said that it would help clearing the pilgrim rush, as about one lakh pilgrims would likely to visit the temple on Monday. Besides tight security at the temple, the Devasthanam officials were asked to arrange more first aid centres and mobile medical teams on the hillock. Festival special officer Kesavulu said that it was decided to stop ‘Annadanam’ on Monday, Instead, arrangements were being made to distribute ‘pulihora’ prasadam free of cost to all pilgrims, he said.
