Bijapur: Banks and financial institutions should follow the “canons of financial propriety” to provide better facilities to consumers and achieve sustained growth, said Deputy Commissioner C.M. Shirol. He was speaking after inaugurating a programme organised by District Credit Cooperative (DCC) Bank at Kandagal Hanumantrai Rangmandir here on Monday to distribute crop insurance cheques to farmers. The bank authorities should never consider their personal interests while dealing with public money, Mr. Shirol said. DCC Bank chairman Shivanand Patil said that the bank had been doing a commendable job despite several hardships. In the current fiscal year, the bank had disbursed Rs. 287 crore as agricultural loans, Rs. 43-crore as non-agricultural loans and Rs 56 crore as personal loans. Farmers in the district received Rs 9.5 crore as crop insurance for 2006-07. The Deputy Commissioner distributed cheques to the beneficiaries.
