GULBARGA: Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board Secretary Shalini Rajneesh Goel on Monday said that special arrangements had been made in all the district hospitals in Gulbarga division to take care of the health requirements of senior citizens as part of the measures initiated by the State Government to protect their interests.

Inaugurating the Senior Citizens’ Day celebrations here, Ms. Goel said that apart from this, two day-care centres had been established in each taluk for senior citizens, at the anganwadi level. Ms. Goel said that it was the responsibility of every youngster to protect and take care of senior citizens, and the lack of value-based education at the school level was the reason for youngsters becoming indifferent towards their parents and elders in society.

State Commissioner for Disabilities Das Suryavanshi, in his address, said that the commissionerate was doing everything to protect the rights of senior citizens and had established helplines for them in 15 district headquarters.

Helplines would be established in other districts too, he added.

Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat S. Shekar presided over the gathering.

Senior citizens including physician S.H. Katti, social worker Shantabai Kamalapur, Revanasiddayya Swamy, Ramanand Malipatil and Mohd Jaleel Ahmed were felicitated on the occasion.
