Booked: Activists of the Vijayanagar District Action Committee being bundled into a police van in Hospet on Monday. BELLARY: Around 80 activists of the Vijayanagar District Action Committee were arrested here on Monday for blocking National Highway 63, on the outskirts of Hospet city. They were urging the Government to carve out a Vijayanagara district by bifurcating Bellary district. The activists were, however, released later. StruggleThe “rasta roko” was planned by the committee to mark the completion of 50 days of its struggle for a new district. The activists, including members of the Jagruti Nayak Balaga, staged the protest on the Hospet-Bellary road, affecting the movement of vehicular traffic for over an hour. Later, the police made preventive arrests and cleared the traffic. Convener of the committee M. Ulleshwara, Councillor S. Chandrababu, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike State vice-president Gujjal Nagaraj, secretary Mahesh, taluk president Hanumanth, Jagrutha Nayak Balaga president T. Srinivas and secretary P. Venkob Nayak, participated.
