CHICKBALLAPUR: M. Mallikarjun Kharge, who stepped down as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president on Monday, has said that Congressmen themselves were responsible for the defeat of the party in the Assembly elections. Addressing a party convention at Doddaballapur in Bangalore Rural district, Mr. Kharge said the Congress had good chances of winning the elections, but the partymen themselves played spoilsport. “It is time for Congress leaders to introspect,” he remarked. Mr. Kharge said he had given details of all these developments before the extended Congress Working Committee meeting and he was not interested in using the convention as an occasion to wash the dirty linen in public. “I feel sad that I failed to bring the party back to power in the State,” he observed.
