Strike has no impact on RTC services, says official

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: The indefinite strike launched by APSRTC Employees Union in Visakhapatnam region from Monday has not affected the bus services.

“We have tried our best to avoid the strike by holding discussions at various levels in view of the festive rush but the union leaders refused to listen,” said Regional Manager N. Venkateswara Rao.

He said the management has made all arrangements to avoid inconvenience to the passengers. The union was not recognised and doesn’t enjoy much patronage. He said 928 schedules were operated on Monday as against the total 901 schedules from various depots in the region.

This indicates that the total operation of buses was 103 per cent in spite of the strike. A mere seven per cent, i.e., only 360 employees of the total 5,055 employees in the region, abstained from duties.

Mr. Venkateswara Rao said all possible steps were being taken to operate the required number of buses to avoid inconvenience to the travelling public in view of Dasara festival rush.
