Kakinada: A young contingent of 350 NCC cadets from all over the country has got a glimpse of the capabilities of the Indian Navy during the ‘Day at Sea’ organised as part of the Special National Integration Camp being held here on Tuesday.

Spectacular display

They were taken on two warships – INS Rajput and INS Sukanya – into the sea where naval personnel demonstrated sonar dunking by a Kamov helicopter, search and rescue by a Chetak helicopter, a fly past by both the choppers and rifle shooting.

The NCC cadets were awestruck with the spectacular display of the naval prowess. Other invitees, too, thoroughly enjoyed their voyage on the Indian Navy’s ‘sentinels of the sea’. The NCC cadets and schoolchildren jumped with joy as the ships left Kakinada port at 10 a.m., nearly two hours behind schedule, and they showed enthusiasm to know about the functioning of the Navy. The Naval officers and sailors explained how they lead their lives on the sea away from homes for several months at a stretch. The youngsters got an insight into the naval operations and some of them were seen jotting down notes as their doubts were being clarified. The operational demonstrations kept the participants spell-bound as it was a rare chance for them to sail on naval ships and see how the enemies are fought. Commander of NCC Group Headquarters, Kakinada, A.S. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Commandant of the NCC National Integration Camp Satendra Singh conducted the ‘Day at Sea’ and they had fruitful interactions with the NCC cadets and other participants whose zeal to know what Navy was all about appeared unending.

When the ships were on their way back to the shore, NCC cadets danced to the tunes of patriotic and pop songs. Some of the youths rendered a few songs to the loud applause of all the participants.
