Taste the ‘festive feast’ at The Park

Staff Reporter

It offers delicious Bengali dishes on the occasion of Durga Puja

Till October 10, the beachside Bamboo Bay restaurant features a buffet

The master chef of Bengali food from Kolkata will oversee the preparation

VISAKHAPATNAM: The rolling sound of the Dhak (drum of the Bengal), the incense of amber from ‘Dhunuchi’ (pot) and the brilliance of the Sandhya Arti performed in front of the goddess heralds ‘Durga Puja’. And no ‘puja’ is ever complete without indulging in a traditional Bengali feast. An overall festive spirit and bustling activity permeate The Park Hotel in the city. The hotel is organising one of the biggest and most lavish Bengali food festivals that they have ever offered. Till October 10, the beachside Bamboo Bay restaurant features a buffet showcasing myriad dishes of traditional Bangla cuisine.

Aptly named ‘Sharodiya Mahabhoj’ (festive mega feast), the dinner only event, is churning out some traditional culinary masterpieces of Bengal. “We are not compromising on quality of ingredients and the authenticity of the traditional cooking methods. Hence, we have flown in most of the fish like Calcutta Bekti, Pabda, Parshe and Hilsa fresh from Kolkata. Even the rice and the mustard are brought from Kolkata. The master chef of Bengali food from The Park, Kolkata, himself will be overseeing the preparation. We are happy with the overwhelming response on the first day itself” says Siraj Mukherjee, executive manager, The Park. Tourists to the city say it’s a rare combination to witness Durga Puja along with the flavours of traditional Bengali cuisine in Vizag. The daily changing buffet offers mouthwatering festive delights like Pabda Maacher Jhaal, Lau Chingri, Bhaja Ilish, Parshey Jhaal, Posto Murgi, Bhetki Paturi, Muri Ghonto, Chingri Maacher Malai curry and Kasha Mangsho. Vegetarian fare includes the famous Mochaar Ghonto, Kaachkolar Kofta, Chhanaar Cutlet, Shukto, Lau Posto and Koraisuti Dhokar Dalna. The piping hot Loochi, Radhaballavi and Koraisutir Kochuri served with generous helpings of Chholar Dal and Bhaja Moonger Dal are added options. Choices of rice, pullao and an assortment of bhaja’s – jhurjhurey aloo, potol, beguni, piyanji, bori and phoolkopi make the meal complete. For desserts there is patishapta, nolen gurer payesh and gorom roshogolla. And if all this is not tempting enough, the heart warming price of Rs. 299 per person is sure to add more spirit to the festivities.

So, this ‘puja’, head for Bamboo Bay or call Linzi Sarkar for reservations at 9703010995.
