The second general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency ended in Vienna after discussions which produced 5,500,000 pages of reports. The 69-member body, sponsored by the United Nations, reaffirmed its principal objective “to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity throughout the world.” One of the main conference issues was the proposal to give aid to under-developed countries which wish to exploit the pace uses of atomic energy. Delegates from India and Pakistan said that power from small and medium-sized reactors would cost no more than the power gained from conventional sources in the Far East.
