TENALI: The controversy over the change of guard in the Tenali Municipality took a dramatic turn on Tuesday after about 25 Congress councillors were shifted to an undisclosed location. The move was widely seen to preempt any moves by the supporters of the chairperson to lure councillors to vote in favour of chairperson Tadiboyina Mastanamma, who might face the prospects of being defeated in the no-confidence motion which might be held soon. With the member of Parliament V. Bala Shourie and M.L.A Nadendla Manohar firm on adhering to the agreement signed in the year 2005 to share the chairpersonship, the stakes are now cast heavily against the present chairperson. The M.P and M.L.A, who were crossing swords recently, were persuaded by both Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas, to give up their differences and work towards a smooth transition of power. Meanwhile, further drama was added to the intriguing story when media reports emanating from Hyderabad broke the news that the State Government had issued a G.O amending section 46 of the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Act, extending the duration within which a no-confidence motion could not be called against the municipal chairpersons to four years from the existing three years. Regional Director of Municipal Administration Karuna Chandra Babu, however, said that he had not received any written orders from the Government on this issue. Interestingly, similar situation has been prevailing in three other municipalities, Piduguralla, Ponnur and Sattenapalli, all of them headed by the Congress. In Mangalagiri, the no-confidence motion against M.P.P Doddaka Nageswara Rao, scheduled to be held on Wednesday was indefinitely put off after the High Court had issued a stay order. The High Court would further conduct its hearing on the issue on October 14.
