CPI State executive to meet on October 26, 27

Special Correspondent

Narayana finds nothing amiss in his power-sharing agreement

TIRUPATI: Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary K. Narayana who has created ripples in the State’s political spectrum with his sensational statement that Chandrababu Naidu and Chiranjeevi could strike a deal to share the Chief Ministership for two-and-half years each on the lines of the Bharatiya Janata Party-Janata Dal (S) experiment in Karnataka has said that he does not find anything amiss in his line of thinking.

Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Narayana said that he had sent the feeler because he found a growing feeling among people in the State for a ‘new political order’. “The political atmosphere in the State also looked set for new political experiments and so I thought I could moot the proposal to give it a try,” he said.

Note of optimism

He said a clear picture on the alliances would emerge only close to the election and struck a note of optimism that everything would fall in place once the time arrived. He said the State executive of the CPI would be meeting at Hyderabad on October, 26 and 27 to take stock of the political situation and to discuss the specifics of the alliances.

He said that the CPI and perhaps the CPI(M) too were looking for a strong and viable political alternative as the Congress, with which they had sided in the 2004 elections, not only ditched the people but also its poll partners.

He pointed out that it was only as part of the efforts that the CPI had initiated a dialogue with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Praja Rajyam and the CPI (M). He said no such dialogue was initiated yet with the Telugu Desam Party.

CPI(M) position

The CPI (M) also is in the same position, Mr Narayana said and pointed out that based on the consensus that emerged at the State executive, a report would be sent to the Polit Bureau which would take a final decision in the overall context.
