This Day That Age
The Chief Martial Law Administrator of Pakistan, Gen. Ayub Khan, on October 8 issued a series of regulations, imposing death penalty for certain offences and rigorous imprisonment ranging from seven to fourteen years for certain other types of offences. Special military courts and summary military courts have been set up to try and punish persons contravening the regulations. Mr. Feroze Khan Noon and other members of his dismissed cabinet are virtually under house arrest in Karachi since martial law was imposed, according to travellers from Karachi. Mr. Noon and his colleagues have been prevented from contacting each other or members of the public, these travellers said. President Iskander Mirza’s house is still heavily guarded. The Karachi airport, public buildings and foreign missions are also well guarded.
